Wayne, Pa. - Even though the Millersville women's golf team won one tournament in the fall and finished in the top three on two other occasions, the Marauders still felt like they had to prove themselves when the spring season rolled around. They have done just that with three wins in as many events, the most recent of which was a first-place finish at the Eastern Invitational on Tuesday afternoon.
Millersville took the team title with a 67-over-par 347, which was 21 strokes better than the second place team and all five of Millersville's golfers finished in the top 10. Stevenson (+88/368) finished in second and homestanding Eastern rounded out the top three with a 388/+108.
Jaimie Wharton was the top individual for the Marauders in second with an 80 (+10) and Shannon Weber was a couple spots behind her in fourth as she shot a 16-over-par 86. Kendal Olear finished in sixth place (89), Jennifer Gentry was right behind her in seventh (92) and Danielle Freed was the final Marauder to score with a 93, which was good for a tie for eighth place overall.
Millersville has three tournaments left for this season's schedule and the next will be the Kutztown Spring Invitational on April 11 at Berkleigh Golf Club in Kutztown, Pa. Last season, the Marauders took fourth place out of eight teams at the event.
