
Marauders Open Outdoor Season at Raleigh Relays

Raleigh, N.C. – The Millersville women's track and field team began the 2015 outdoor season by producing several outstanding results at the highly competitive Raleigh Relays. The Marauders traveled to Raleigh, N.C. where they competed against student-athletes from over 30 Division I, II and III programs at the Paul Derr Track.
Coming off an All-American performance during the indoor season, Kiara Allen competed in the 100-meter dash and ran her fastest time of the spring, finishing in a time of 12.31 and in ninth place.
In the 400-meter dash the Marauders had two athletes competing with Erin Madison finishing with the best time. Madison completed the event in 58.60, which was just over a second slower than her top time in the event from a season ago. Sophomore Aniya Gibbs was the other athlete competing in the sprint as she crossed the finish line in 59.80. The mark was a personal best for the Chester, Pa., native.
Madison also competed in the 400-meter hurdles and was able to race to a top-10 finish. The junior finished eighth with a 1:02.97 recorded time.
In the distance events Millersville had athletes begin the spring season strong. Shannon Cruz was amongst the top Division II finishers in the 5000-meter run. The Lancaster Catholic product crossed the finish line in 18:15.14.
Senior Ann Kovacs impressed in the women's hammer throw to highlight the Marauder performances in the field. Kovacs top throw sailed 46.95 meters, which was good for a 17th place finish. Teammate Vanessa Hower finished just behind Kovacs as her top throw traveled 46.01 meters and was good for 23rd.
Amanda Myers had an outstanding performance in the javelin placing 12th overall. Meyers top throw traveled 38.92 meters which was the seventh best distance in program history.
PSAC qualifying times were turned in by Kiara Allen (100-meter), Erin Madison (400-meter / 400-meter hurdles), Aniya Gibbs (400-meters), Shannon Cruz (5000-meter), Ann Kovacs (Hammer), Vanessa Hower (Hammer), and Amanda Myers (Javelin).
The Marauders now have a week to prepare for their lone home meet of the season. The Millersville Metrics will take place on Saturday, 4 at Biemsderfer Stadium.
