East Stroudsburg, Pa. – Sophomore Abigail Daley produced a career-best effort in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:43.85 as the Marauders competed at the DeShriver Invitational. Due to complications regarding transportation to the meet on the East Stroudsburg campus, the Marauders only had a handful of athletes competing.
Daley won the one and only event in which she competed in and recorded Millersville's best finish of the day. Teammate Kiara Allen raced out to a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash. Allen, a prolific sprinter, raced out of the blocks and crossed the finish line in 1:00.49. The mark represented a PSAC qualifying standard, and also was collegiate best for the redshirt junior.
Coach Andy Young was also impressed with Amanda Long's performance in the unique 600-meter run. Long finished the event fifth, and was just five seconds slower than winner J'Renda Rivera of Monroe College. The Pennsburg, Pa., native finished the event with a recorded time of 1:43.69.
Senior Erin Madison also scored a fifth-place finish for the Marauders as she put forth a season best performance in the 800-meter run. Madison was able to finish the event in 2:27.87. Teammate Aniya Gibbs also competed in the distance run as she raced to a ninth-place finish. Her time of 2:33.68 was nearly eight seconds faster than her previous season best.
The Marauders have two more meets to prepare before competing in the PSAC Championships Feb. 28-Mar. 1. Millersville travels to Sellinsgrove, Pa. next Saturday, February 14 to perform in the Susquehanna Invitational.
