Millersville, Pa. - Millersville received a Senior Night pin from
Brock Thompson and wins from freshmen
Alex Baider and
David Wuestner, but Franklin & Marshall held on to the Rupp Cup for a fifth consecutive season, winning by a 24-12 score.
Â
The Rupp Cup, named in the honor of the late Dr. Ted Rupp, was officially started in 2008 with Millersville winning the first two but F&M winning each since. Nine of the 10 matches on Thursday went the distance. The only one that didn't came from Thompson. Wrestling up two weight classes at 174, capped his Senior Night in the best way possible, scoring the first pin of his career. Baider won his fourth consecutive dual match to improve to 9-6, and Wuestner's 16th win over the season came in the sudden victory period by a 3-1 score.
Baider put the Marauders up 3-0 early. He scrambled for two points early in the first period and built up 1:47 of riding time. He chose the down position to start the second and escaped after 14 seconds for a 3-0 lead. With both wrestlers standing in the second period, Ruiz grabbed Baider's left leg and knocked him to the outer edges of the mat to score two points. Baider immediately escaped on the reset to push his lead to 4-2. With five seconds left in the second, Baider shot aggressively off of a reset for two more. Ruiz started the third with a takedown of his own, but again, Baider quickly escaped. Baider added another takedown for good measure in the final seconds.

21-match winner
Shane Ruhnke lost a narrow 3-2 decision to Rob King at 157 pounds. Ruhnke trailed 3-2 in the waning seconds and ran out of time before he could complete a takedown. Thompson's was the most unlikely of the night as he fell behind Gordon Bolig by an 8-1 score by the end of the first period. Thompson started the second period on top and managed to roll Bolig onto his back. Bolig could not escape and his shoulders hit the mat at the 3:26 mark.
Â
Another close match was contested at 184 pounds between
Kyle Narber and Anthony Mancini. Narber scored in the opening seconds with a quick takedown but fell behind Anthony Mancini 3-2 before hitting a reversal in the second period. Narber fell behind 5-4 after Mancini escaped twice. Narber's last ditch attempts for a takedown were repelled and Mancini padded the score with a riding time point.
Â
Wuestner won a sudden victory match for the second time this season. With the score tied 1-1 late in the third period, Wuestner nearly scored a takedown on Alex Henry but with Henry trying to escape the hold, Wuestner's toes slid out of bounds, resulting in no points scored. Both wrestlers scrambled for a takedown in the final seconds but neither managed to score. In the sudden victory period, Wuestner wrapped up Henry from behind and forced him to the mat for the win.
Millersville fell to 6-9 on the season while F&M improved to 3-8. Millersville continues to lead the all-time series, 16-7. The dual also completed the Marauders' regular season. They travel to West Liberty, W.Va., for the Super Region 1 Championships on Feb. 27
