LANCASTER, Pa. - The Millersville wrestling team opened the second half of its season Friday at the Franklin & Marshall Open, just miles from campus. The Marauders competed across multiple weight classes but struggled to build momentum throughout the tournament. For most of the lineup, it marked their first live action since the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis in mid-December, while a handful of wrestlers returned after competing at the Wilkes Open.
Sophomore Chase Bish provided the highlight of the day for Millersville with a strong run through the consolation bracket at 165 pounds. Bish dropped his opening match but responded with a 9-2 decision in his next bout, using a late-period takedown and back points to pull away. He followed with a 9-3 decision victory before advancing via medical forfeit in the next round. Bish continued his run by opening the consolation of eight with a 17-8 major decision, keeping himself alive in the tournament. His day came to an end in the second round of the consolation of eight, where he fell by decision.
Cole Dubois, Colin Higgins and Kurt Scheuerman each finished 1-2 on the day. Dubois and Higgins both fell in their opening matches before rebounding with major decision wins in the consolation bracket. Dubois was forced to forfeit his next match due to injury, while Higgins' tournament ended with a loss by pin. Scheuerman dropped his opening match by decision and moved into the consolation bracket, where he earned a medical forfeit victory before falling by pin in his final bout.
Eight other Marauders competed at the open but went 0-2, bringing their day to an early end. The Marauders return to PSAC dual competition Saturday, Jan. 17, when it hosts Gannon at noon inside Pucillo Gymnasium.
