Millersville, Pa. - The 15th-ranked Kutztown Golden Bears invaded Pucillo Gymnasium on Wednesday evening and handed the Millersville wrestling team a 38-9 PSAC loss.
The loss conluded PSAC competition for Millersville (6-8, 1-6 PSAC). Kutztown improved to 10-6 overall and 4-1 in league action. Millersville's points came from 125-pound
Alex Baider and a forfeit at 133 pounds. While the Marauders trailed just 14-9 after five bouts, Kutztown won two in a row by fall, the 165-pound match by major decision and the 174-pound match by technical fall.
At 125 pounds, Baider nearly rode out Andre Petroski in the second period but gave up the one point with 14 seconds left. That gave Petroski a 1-0 lead heading into the final period. With neither wrestler owning a riding time advantage, Petroski very nearly rode out Baider for the final two minutes. But after a reset, Baider spun out of Petroski's hold and scored two points with a reversal. Baider stayed in control for the remaining 20 seconds to pick up three points for the Marauders.
Millersville hosts Franklin & Marshall on Feb. 19 in the annual Battle for the Rupp Cup, which is named in the honor of Lancaster County wrestling icon Dr. Ted Rupp. Rupp graduated from F&M, coached at both schools and started the wrestling program at Millersville, winning the program's only two PSAC titles in 1949 and 1951.
