Complete Game Notes (.PDF)GAME OVERVIEW• After a rocky 1-3 start to the season, Millersville has back-to-back games over two quality opponents and seems to be hitting its stride entering the month of December. Last season, the Marauders went 5-1 (97-62, .610 all-time) in the holiday month and they are looking for a repeat performance in 2015-16. That won't be easy with the first set of PSAC crossover games. Seton Hill is the top defensive team across the board in the PSAC and California is 4-0 in league play and the reigning national champion.
• Millersville is 3-0 at home and is averaging 75.3 points per game compared to 60.3 points per game on the road. Millersville's 3-point shooting is much better at home (.300/.256) as is its free throw shooting (.600/.511). The biggest difference is at the defensive end, though, as the Marauders are holding teams to three points fewer at home and the shooting percentage of the opponent drops from 44.7 to 35.4. From three, opponents are shooting just 22.4 percent in Pucillo.
• Millersville and Seton Hill have met just twice before and only once since the Griffins joined the PSAC in 2013-14.
Mary Fleig coached against the Griffins in her second season on the job (1991). Seton Hill has never played in Pucillo Gymnasium before.
• Millersville and California are two of the PSAC's traditional powers. California hs been ranked in the top 25 in seven of the last 10 meetings. While CalU holds an advantage in the series, seven consecutive meetings were played at CalU before the 2013 63-53 CalU win in Pucillo. Saturday's game will only be CalU's third visit to Pucillo since 2007. Millersville scored two wins over a nationally-ranked CalU club in 2010 and another win in 2013. In 2012, Millersville was edged in overtime on the road, and in January of 2013, CalU won by just three points.
• Millersville's offense boasts a variety of weapons. The quartet
Aunjel Van Brakle,
Yasmin Cooper,
Celeste Robinson in
Shelby Reimer has scored in double figures in each of the last two games. Four players have scored in double figures in all three of Millersville's wins. The Marauders are 3-1 when scoring more than 60 points in a game.
•
Shelby Reimer enters the weekend with five consecutive games in double figures. She hit for a season-high 17 against Kutztown. Her 35.4 3-point percent is ninth in the league and her 2.8 threes per game is third most.
• Millersville is the among the best rebounding teams in the PSAC, ranking fourth with a plus-5.6 margin. The Marauders average a PSAC-best 43.2 rebounds per game. Much of Millersville's damage is done on the offensive glass where it averages a league high 16.8 per game.
Yasmin Cooper, No. 2 in the PSAC at 11.5 per game, is a big reason why the Marauders are controlling the glass. Cooper's 5.7 offensive rebounds is best in the league. California's Seairra Barrett is No. 2 at 5.1 per game.
•
Aunjel Van Brakle has put together an impressive two-game run, averaging 16.5 points and 8.0 rebounds. It is the first time she has scored in double figures in three consecutive games.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT• Seton Hill was voted to finish sixth in the PSAC West preseason poll. The team's top three starters from last season's 12-17 club graduated. The team's lone senior is Jharrin Gill, who leads the team in assists at 3.1 per game. Seton Hill is off to a a strong 5-2 start. Its losses came on a neutral court to Chowan and at home against Bloomsburg by three points (82-79). Seton Hill is a tough defensive club, ranking first in the league in scoring defense at 58.4 points per game. It is also tops in field goal percentage defense (.358) and 3-point field goal percentage defense (.198). On offense, no player on the team averages double figures. 10 players play an average of 13.1 minutes per game but no player averages more than 26 minutes.
• California is the defending Division II national champion and off to another strong start at 4-0 in the PSAC. Statistically, California does not jump off the page, averaging a middle-of-the-pack 70.9 points per game and allowing 63.7, which ranks eight in the league. But point guard Miki Glenn might be the best player in the PSAC, averaging 20.7 points, 6.0 assists and 2.3 steals per game--top three in the PSAC in all three categories.
