
Marauders Continue To Achieve PSAC Qualifying Standards

Bethlehem, Pa. – The Millersville indoor track & field team had an eventful weekend as the majority of the team competed in the 23rd annual Lehigh John Covert Classic while Kiara Allen and Arianna Camel were thrust onto the national stage in New York City competing in the Armory Classic.
Allen had a very successful afternoon as she was able to improve upon her PSAC Performance time in the 200-meter dash. The redshirt junior ran to a career best indoor time crossing the finish line in 26.09 seconds.
Teammate Arianna Camel competed in the 60-meter hurdles where she was able to improve upon her PSAC leading mark. Camel finished the event in 9.06 seconds, and gained most of her momentum thanks to a beautiful start out of the blocks.
At the John Covert Classic, several Marauders made noise during the field events. Senior Ann Kovacs bettered her PSAC mark in the Weight Throw. Kovacs finished the event third, with her top throw sailing 14.21 meters. Classmates Kelli Farris and Vanessa Hower also competed in the event finishing sixth and tenth, respectively. Farris whose top throw was good for 13.68 meters, qualified for the PSAC Championships next month.
Freshman Erin Harman was able to hit a PSAC qualifying mark in the triple jump where she achieved her top jump in her second attempt. Harman was able to jump 34-10 1/2 with the effort placing her eighth in the event. Millersville captain Jessica Fritche finished 16th in the triple jump as she was able to jump a season best 33-4 1/2.
Aniya Gibbs was among the top finishers on the track for the Marauders. Gibbs was able to race to a fourth place finish in the 400-meter dash. Her recorded time of 1:00.53 matched a PSAC qualifying standard time and the mark was the second fastest among Marauder athletes this season.
Sophomore Abigail Daley competed in her first 1 mile run of the season and was able to score a seventh place finish. Daley paced herself around the track and finished with a 5:29.48 recorded time.
The Black & Gold will be in action next Saturday Feb. 7, when they compete in Deshiver Invitational. The meet will take place at the Koehler Field House on the East Stroudsburg campus.
