Lancaster, Pa. - Shane Ruhnke and the Millersville wrestling team made the short trip to Lancaster for the David H. Lehman F&M Open, and Ruhnke returned with a third-place trophy at 157 pounds.
Ruhnke ran his season record to 15-2 with a six-win performance that included three pins and a major decision. All three of his falls came in the first round. His win in the third-place bout came by a 13-5 major decision over Robbie King of F&M. His lone loss came to eventual champion and the No. 1-ranked wrestler in Division II, Jonaton Rivera of Notre Dame College. Fellow Marauder
Seth Decker also picked up four wins at 157 pounds.
Thomas Nulty advanced into the championship semifinals of the 141-pound class, scoring a major decision and a second round fall. His tournament was ended in the consolation semis by third-place winner Robert Ruiz of F&M.
Freshman
Ian Shannon won four matches at 165 pounds and freshman
Kyle Narber won three at 184. Heavyweight
David Wuestner lost his opening bout but pushed to the consolation quarterfinals with four wins including a 15-0 tech fall.
Austin Camacci also scored three wins at 125.
Among the grapplers wrestling unattached was 125-pound
Connor Sheehan. Sheehan lost in the second round to eventual champion Ivan McClay but finished in third place after win four matches in the consolation bracket. His wins included two pins and a major decision.
Millersville hosts Gannon on Jan. 8, marking the first of eight home duals over the final two months of the season.
