Millersville, Pa. – Millersville men's wrestler split a pair of duals on Saturday at home, falling to No. 18 Pitt-Johnstown before beating LIU Post, 28-16.
Â
Millersville, now 6-4 on the season, received strong performances in both duals from three freshmen. 157-pound
Shane Ruhnke, 165-pound
Ian Shannon and 285-pound
David Wuestner combined for an 6-0 record and 28 team points  in the two duals. Shannon boosted his season record to 22-8 and a perfect 10-0 in duals. Ruhnke, who scored 25 points in his two matches, joined Shannon as freshmen with 20 wins. Wuestner won by an injury default in the first bout and landed a third-round fall in the tri-meet finale. Now 14-8, the pin was his third of the season.Â
PITT-JOHNSTOWN 30, MILLERSVILLE 15Millersville's first points came from Ruhnke at 157 pounds. Ruhnke raced to a 4-1 lead on Steve Edwards and nearly had a pin in the first period but time ran short before he could get the fall. A 7-1 lead into the second turned into a 10-5 lead by the end of the second following a flurry of action by both wrestlers. The exchanged continued in the third period but Ruhnke held off Edwards for a 13-9 win.
Â
At 165, Shannon scored the first point on an escape 47 seconds into the second period against Boe Bonzo. Bonzo chose the neutral position to start the third. With 1:21 left, Shannon went to the mat and looked in danger of giving up two points but quickly spun away and wrapped up Bonzo for two of his own and a 3-0 lead that remained.
Â
Zachary Yackenchick, wrestling against Forest Tuttle at 197, built a 5-2 lead in the first period with a takedown, reversal and escape. He started the third period in the bottom position with a 5-3 lead. He escaped with 1:20 left but Tuttle immediately picked up two more points Yackenchick quickly escaped, though, and managed to hold on for a 7-6 win despite surrendering a stalling point late.
Â
In the 285-pound match, Wuestner scored a reversal, and as he went to the mat with Zac Bennett under him, Bennett landed on his shoulder. He signaled for an injury timeout and ended up taking an injury default.

MILLERSVILLE 28, LIU POST 16Alex Baider put Millersville on the board with a win over Tyler Walsh at 125 pounds. He scored a takedown late in the second period after giving up an escape at the start. With just over 30 seconds left in the third, he escaped from the bottom position for a 3-1 lead and the eventual win.
Â
The match-up between
Nico Demetrio and Matt Langan was filled with offense. Demetrio held a 13-7 lead at the start of the third and after an escape from the bottom position a major decision looked in order. Langan, however, picked up two with a takedown and despite a late shot by Demetrio, he couldn't score the two points he needed. He finished with a 15-9 win.
Â
Ruhnke controlled his match with Jackson Mordente from the outset. He built up 2:45 of riding time for a 12-2 major decision. Shannon won for the 22nd time of the season and needed just 1:19 to do so. He pinned James Sinclair for his fifth fall of the season.
Â
The most entertaining match of the day came at the 285 pounds where Wuestner battled James Louison. Louison needed a pin to tie the dual's score, but it was Wuestner that came away with the fall. Louison, who weighed in a full 40 pounds heavier that Wuestner, built an early 4-0 lead, but Wuestner came charging back. Trailing 9-8 as the match neared its final minute Wuestner spun on Louison and picked up two points with a reversal. He immediately turned it into a pinning situation and stuck Louison's shoulders to the mat.
