Marauder Volleyball Sweeps Day One of Marauder Clash

Millersville, Pa. - Millersville volleyball went 2-0 to begin the Marauder Clash for the second year in a row, but this time, the Marauders did so without yielding a single set. Millersville swept both Goldey-Beacom and Virginia Union in straight sets to open 2014.
In the day's first match, the Lightning (1-1) fought valiantly in the first set, but dropped the decision, 25-22. The Marauders then rolled in sets two and three by the score of 25-13 in each. In the nightcap against the Panthers (0-2), Millersville took the first two sets by a score of 25-11 each. The third set went to extra points but the Marauders came out on top, 26-24.
A full box score for the Goldey-Beacom match was not readily available.
Millersville opened the first set against Virginia Union on a 12-5 run that was fueled by three kills from freshman Erin Harman, two by Katie Lesinski and six errors from the visitors. The Panthers cut the deficit to four, 13-9 before the hosts reeled off 12 of the final 14 points to take the first set. The Marauders opened set No. two right where they left off and opened with a 12-4 fury that was supported by four more kills from Harman and two by Lesinski. Virginia Union cut it to six at its closest but Millersville pulled away once again. The third set saw 11 ties and five lead changes. Towards the end, the Panthers led by four, 22-18 before five straight points from the home team to give it a one-point lead. After a couple more ties, the Marauders scored the final two to take the set and the match.
Harman led the attack with 10 kills and she was helped by fellow freshman, Victoria Biggins who delivered 35 assists. Defensively, Brooklyn Smith dug out 12 balls while both Kayla Wallace and and Stephanie Kovacs each had a solo block and a block assist.
Saturday,Millersville's play continues in the Marauder clash with matchups against Holy Family (11 a.m.) and Chestnut Hill (3 p.m.)
