Game Overview
  • Saturday's game will be between the undefeated Marauders and Slippery Rock who owns a 4-4 record so far this season. The Marauders are entering this game having already achieved numerous accomplishments this season. That list includes Sarah Bomberger being named PSAC Athlete of the Week on Sept. 29. Bomberger has been an essential player of the team so far in 2014. As a squad, Millersville is one of three undefeated teams left in the country and looks to continue its impressive streak against Slippery Rock. The Rock are ranked No. 23 by the NCAA for their scoring average while Millersville is ranked No. three in that same category. Slippery Rock won its last game against East Stroudsberg 2-1 with the winning goal being scored by Michelle Couch. Kelsey Gustafson has been The Rock's top scorer so far this season.

Series History
  • Millersville and Slippery Rock first met in 1979 which resulted in a 2-0 win for the Marauders. Since 2008, the Marauders have won every game they have played against THe Rock. Of the seven games since 2008, Millersville has shut Slippery Rock out in six of them.

The Last Meeting
  • The Marauders last met The Rock in 2013 where they notched another win against Slippery Rock with a 4-0 score. Sarah Bomberger assisted on two of the four goals. In that game, Millersville had fourteen shots while Slippery Rock managed only seven. Lauren Sotzin shut the Rock out last time they met, and has the skills needed to shut them out once again.

Zapp Continues to Impress
  • Katelyn Zapp has scored in every game she has played in this season. She was unable to play against West Chester because of injury, but came back to score a goal against Mansfield. Zapp has scored eight goals in six games and is ranked No. six by the NCAA in goals per game. Zapp is only one goal away from earning fifth place in Millersville's records, the highest being nineteen goals. With 11 games left in the PSAC schedule, she is sure to keep up her incredible scoring streak, helping the Marauders keep their outstanding record for this season.

Athlete of the Week        
  • Senior Sarah Bomberger was deservedly named the PSAC Athlete of the Week on Sept. 29. Bomberger was an essential part in the double overtime win against West Chester as well as the rout of Mansfield. In those two games combined, she scored two goals and assisted in the game-tying goal in the thriller against West Chester. Bomberger has been an important part of this Millersville team and will be against Slippery Rock. She assisted on two goals the last time they met and is sure to keep up her commendable work for this upcoming game. 

Scouting Slippery Rock
  • The Rock's last game against East Stroudsberg resulted in a 2-1 win, bringing them up to a 4-4 record. Slippery Rock has had one shutout this season and it came against American International College. Their top scorer is Senior Kelsey Gustafson with four goals this season and a shot percentage of .444. They are ranked No. 22 in points per game by the NCAA. Their coach Julie Swiney enters her fifth season with the Slippery Rock field hockey team. She was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division coach of the year in 2012.
