Freshman Shannon Weber Places Fifth in Evann Parker Memorial

North East, Pa. - Shannon Weber didn't waste any time establishing herself for the Millersville women's golf team as the freshman took home fifth place at the Evann Parker Memorial, the Marauders' first tournament of the fall season.
The Kutztown, Pa. native shot a five-over 78 on day one and was tied for second before shooting an 11-over 84 in the second round to finish with a 162. That 78 ties the program's lowest score for 18 holes. Jaimie Wharton was tied for 28th as the next-highest finisher for Millersville and finished with a 174 while Danielle Freed turned in a 178 to tie for 38th. The fifth Marauder to compete with the team was Kendal Olear who finished in a tie for 67th with a 190.
Alexa Strong also made her collegiate debut with a two-day score of 194, which was good for 74th overall. Jennifer Gentry got her first taste of Division II golf and played as an individual with a 171, which was tied for 23rd.
As a team, the Marauders finished in eighth out of 16 teams. Millersville's first-round score of 346 is a new school record for 18 holes and the total score of 701 tied the program's lowest 36-hole score. Trevecca Nazarene won the event while five PSAC teams finished in the top 10 including Gannon (second), Seton Hill (third). Mercyhurst (fourth), West Chester (fifth), and Millersville (eighth). Becky Gossard (West Virginia Wesleyan) and Eva Schonander (Gannon) were the top overall finishers and tied for first with a five-under 157.
Next up for the Marauders is the Michael Corbett Fall Classic on Sept. 14 and 15 in Erie, Pa.
