Extra Inning Win Gets Marauders Split at Bloomsburg

Bloomsburg, Pa. – Bloomsburg scored a rare victory over Millersville's Chris Murphy in Saturday's opener, but the Marauders escaped the doubleheader with a split when Dan Johnson and Alex Ramsay delivered extra-inning RBI singles for a 4-2 win in game two.
Bloomsburg (15-11, 9-3 PSAC East) handed Millersville a 9-2 loss in game one—the Marauders widest margin of defeat against a PSAC opponent since a 12-5 loss to Kutztown on April 3, 2011. The Marauders simply aren't used to losing when Chris Murphy (6-2) starts. It was only the fourth time in his 23 career starts that the Marauders have lost. Murphy allowed six runs through 4.1 innings, marking the most runs he has allowed in his career. He has allowed two or fewer runs in 17 of 23 career starts.
Millersville (20-9, 7-3 PSAC East) was in danger of being swept in game two when a 2-1 seventh-inning lead slipped away on a Tim Ravel game-tying single off of Adam Zipko, who blew a save for the first time in his Marauder career. It also gave freshman starter Brandon Miller a no decision after a start in which he allowed just two hits in 5.2 innings. Zipko's teammates picked him up in the top of the eighth, though. Dan Johnson and Alex Ramsay delivered back-to-back RBI singles. Zipko worked a 1-2-3 bottom of the eighth to seal the win.
Johnson recorded three hits and three RBIs in the doubleheader, continuing a red-hot streak against PSAC East opponents. The senior is hitting .515 (17-for-33) with a .556 on base percentage and 11 RBIs in 10 league games. Johnson's hitting streak was extended to eight games.
Zach Stone singled in Millersville's second run in game two, giving him 140 in his career and moving him into third place on the school's career list.
Millersville scored two runs in the first inning of the opener on a RBI double from Johnson and a RBI single from Ramsay. But that was all the Marauders would get off of Ruyta Amaike. Murphy was knocked out of the game in the fifth after allowing eight hits and striking out just two. Bloomsburg picked up three more off of the Marauder bullpen.
Miller stymied Bloomsburg in game two. He lone run he allowed was a solo home run to the first batter of the second. He did not allow another Husky to reach base until a two-out single in the sixth. That's when Coach Jon Shehan called Zipko from the bullpen. Zipko escaped the sixth but ran into trouble in the seventh when he walked the leadoff batter, gave up a sacrifice bunt and a single that tied the game. In the top of the eighth, Tyler Orris started the rally with a one-out single. Stone followed with another single and a balk put both runners into scoring position. Johnson delivered a single that just escaped the reach of a diving Bloomsburg right fielder. Ramsay executed a squeeze play in the next at bat, putting the Marauders in front by two.
In his last two starts, Millersville has allowed just one run and six hits in 10.2 innings but has only a pair of no decisions to show.
Stone went 3-for-4 with a run and a RBI in game two. Orris went 2-for-4 with two runs.
