Wharton Wins Ursinus Invitational By Five Shots

Collegeville, Pa. - Jaimie Wharton distanced herself from the field by five shots and won the Ursinus Invitational on Tuesday at Stonewall North Course. Her play helped the Millersville women's golf team to a second place finish.
Wharton posted an 80 for her best career score on a par-70 layout. The victory is the second of her career and her first since taking the Pocono Intercollegiate Invitational as a freshman. Wharton's closest competition was Kutztown's Devan Everett, who shot an 85. Kutztown also had three players tie for third and took the team title with a 63-over-par 343. Millersville finished second as a team with a 93-over-par 373.
Freshman Danielle Freed shot a 93 and finished ninth for third top-10 finish of her freshman campaign. Kendal Olear finished four shots behind Freed in 14th place. Allison Wray placed 19th and Cara Geiger plaed 24th in the 32-player field.
Millersville closes its season this weekend at the two-day East Stroudsburg Spring Invitational.
