Millersville Bats are Silent as West Chester Sweeps Marauders

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 West Chester, Pa. - The Millersville softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to West Chester on Wednesday afternoon by scores of 4-0 and 7-2. The Golden Rams have won 20 of the last 26 meetings between the two teams dating back to the 2008 season and during that span, they are 11-3 against the Marauders at home.

Since opening PSAC East play 2-0, Millersville (14-12, 4-4 PSAC East) has gone just 2-4 in its last six conference contests and ran into West Chester at the wrong time. The Golden Rams (19-10, 8-2 PSAC East) are streaking and have now swept three consecutive league doubleheaders. The Marauders also had trouble finding the strike zone as Black and Gold hurlers walked a combined 14 batters over the two games.

GAME ONE RECAP
Millersville was held to three hits in game one and advanced only one runner past first base. West Chester had a bases-loaded walk in the fourth that was sandwiched by a two-run home run in the second and a solo shot in the sixth. The Golden Rams scored three of their four runs with two outs as well.

Brianna Andraos (9-5) was saddled with the loss after throwing five innings and gave up three earned runs on five hits while striking out one batter. The sophomore right-hander tallied a career-high six walks and has lost back-to-back starts for the first time this season. In relief, Amanda Wink went two innings and gave up one earned run on one hit with a punchout.

GAME TWO RECAP
The home team took the initiative in game two as well with a pair of round-trippers, a solo in the first and a two-run homer in the second. West Chester tacked on four more in the third and was up 7-0 early.

In the top of the sixth, Mandy Hammond led off with a double to left center and Danielle DiFilippo singled to put runners on the corners. Gab Ceritano then stepped in and grounded into a double play that allowed Hammond to come home and score. The next inning, Heather Lutz opened the inning with a double and after moving to third on a Stephanie Kulp groundout, scored with the help of an RBI single from pinch-hitter Jordan Sheffield. In her 76th career game, Sheffield came off the bench for the first time. Freshman Melanie Snyder was making just the second start of her career but first ever at the shortstop position in place of Sheffield.

DiFilippo was 2-for-2 at the plate and Maria Spinosa registered two hits in her three at-bats to go with an RBI.

Wink (2-5) lasted just one inning and gave up three earned runs on three hits with a walk. Cantiello came on in relief and threw five innings while giving up four earned runs on seven hits. The junior hurler walked seven batters and recorded two punchouts.

The road doesn't get any easier for the Marauders who travel to No. 16 Shippensburg on Friday for a twinbill beginning at 2:30 p.m. The Marauders and Raiders has turned into quite the rivalry as the teams have split their last 16 head-to-head matchups with 13 of those games being decided by two runs or less. Millersville has a record of 7-6 in those contests.
