Softball Shuts Out West Chester Twice for First Time Since 2002

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Millersville, Pa. – Thanks to dominant pitching and timely hitting, Millersville softball swept West Chester for the first time since April 2, 2008 with scores of 1-0 and 4-0. Until 2014, The Marauders hadn't shutout the Golden Rams in both games of a doubleheader since April 23, 2002.

Entering Friday, West Chester (28-15, 15-7 PSAC East) was the highest scoring team in the entire PSAC (233 runs scored) and had been held to one hit just once all season and was shutout only three times. Millersville (22-20, 10-12 PSAC East) knocked off the top team in the East and gave up no runs on six hits for the day. The Black and Gold have now won six straight games, their longest winning streak of the season.

GAME ONE RECAP
Millersville's lone run came in the bottom of the third and started when Jordan Sheffield doubled with two outs. Up next, Danielle DiFilippo brought in Sheffield with a two-bagger of her own.

In the circle, Brianna Andraos (14-10) continued her return to earlier season form with seven shutout innings, one hit allowed, four walks and four strikeouts. The sophomore hurler continues to lead the conference in wins (14), complete games (20), shutouts (8), and innings pitched (154.1).

Sheffield was the lone Marauder with multiple hits as she was 2-for-3 with a very important run scored. Both teams stranded five baserunners in the first contest.

Kim Murl (10-5) lost for just the fifth time all season and gave up just the one earned run on six hits. She didn't record a strikeout for the first time since March 22.

GAME TWO RECAP
In game two, Ashley Cantiello brought home Brittany Smith with an RBI single in the bottom of the second. In the sixth, Cantiello was back at it with a two-run single that scored both Smith and Maria Spinosa. In that same frame, an RBI single from DiFilippo pushed across pinch-runner, Yisleidy Minaya-Vargas and gave Millersville a comfy 4-0 advantage.

Amanda Wink (5-8) recorded her first shutout of the season and second of her career on five hits with three punchouts and just one free pass. Wink has now won three straight starts for the first time as a Marauder.

Katie Erb (7-7) dropped her first decision since March 27 and gave up four earned runs on seven hits while striking out two batters. At the plate, DiFilippo, Smith and Cantiello each had two hits apiece. Millersville stranded eight runners to West Chester's four.

The Marauders will look to keep it rolling with a doubleheader at East Stroudsburg on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. Millersville and ESU split their twinbill earlier in the season.
