Stoltzfus, Marauders Walk Off for Doubleheader Sweep of Mansfield

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Millersville, Pa. - After rolling to a 6-1 win over Mansfield in game one of Friday's doubleheader, Millersville baseball needed some extra innings to complete the doubleheader sweep. Jim McDade pitched nine strong innings, and Dan Stoltzfus drove home Kurt Seiders with a walk-off single for a 2-1 win.

The No. 28 Marauders (29-12, 16-6 PSAC East) moved back into a tie with Bloomsburg for first place in the PSAC East after the Huskies split with East Stroudsburg. Millersville's game two extra-inning win was the second in three games, and the win improved it to 5-1 in extra innings. Stoltzfus' single, which followed a Seiders infield single and steal, gave him two hits and two RBIs on the day. Senior Zach Stone went 3-for-3 in game one and 2-for-4 in the nightcap to draw within three hits of Derek Kline's career record of 247. Stone also had an RBI in the opener, giving him 146 RBIs, which is two shy of the school record.

Stone went 4-for-4 against Kutztown on Tuesday, and ran a streak of eight hits in eight at bats into the second game of Friday's series. He now has a seven-game hitting streak and has nine hits in last 11 at bats.

Millersville's starting pitching continued to shine. Tad Barton (6-1) surrendered only an unearned run in the second inning of game one. He scattered five hits and struck out three without issuing a walk in his fifth complete game of the season. He has worked at least six innings in six consecutive starts, and has allowed only six earned runs over his last 40.1 innings. McDade matched Barton's effort with nine efficient innings. The reigning NCBWA Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Week needed just over 100 pitches to record his third complete game. McDade has allowed just one run and six hits in his last 16 innings.

The final two games of the series at Mansfield have been moved to Monday, April 21.

GAME ONE RECAP
Millersville jumped on Mansfield starter Quin Taylor early in the opener. Tyler Orris and Stone hit back-to-back singles, and Dan Johnson reached on an error, loading the bases. Alex Ramsay came through with a RBI single and a second run came home on a balk. The Marauders boosted the lead to 3-0 when Stoltzfus drove home Ramsay with a single.

After Mansfield cut into the lead in the second, Millersville answered with the Orris-Stone combination again. Orris drew a lead-off walk and promptly swiped his 32nd base of the season. Stone ripped a single into left, and Orris raced home from second for a 4-1 lead. The Marauders pushed the lead to four in the third on a Mark Stuckey RBI single. Chas McCormick drove in Dan Neff with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Along with Stone's three hits, Ramsay reached base three times and scored two runs.

GAME TWO RECAP
Runs were tough to come by with McDade and Brandon Garrett on the mound. Mansfield's lone run came across in the third when Brandon Miller doubled in Taylor Hillson.

Stone's first-inning single was Millersville's only hit until McCormick started the sixth with a single. McCormick tied the game in unconventional fashion. Garrett tried to pick off McCormick at first, but the throw skipped down the right field line, allowing McCormick to reach third base. McCormick needed only a wild pitch to tie the game at 1-1.

The Marauders stranded two runners in the seventh and the eighth, and Mansfield very nearly made them pay. In the ninth, Westin Baylor led off with a single and reached second on a wild pitch. Back-to-back two-out walks loaded the bases. McDade, however, struck out Stanton Tentnowski for the third out.

In the bottom of the inning, Seiders legged out a slow roller to shortstop. He stole second to move into scoring position. Stoltzfus, on a 1-2 count, slapped a chopper between the first and second baseman, and Seiders scored easily from second.
