Shepherd Walks Off Twice Against Millersville

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Shepherdstown, W.V. - Millersville softball was in action for the first time in two weeks against Shepherd on Sunday but the Rams won both games in walk-off fashion, 3-2 and 2-1.

All four of the Marauders' (2-4) losses this season have come by one run and Shepherd (5-6) has won three of its last four.

GAME ONE RECAP

The score was tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh with one out before Shepherd drew a walk and two runners reached on Millersville errors to load up the bases. Savannah Snyder then singled back up the middle and gave the Rams a 3-2 walk-off win in game one.

There was no scoring to be found through the first three innings but the Marauders were able to strike first in the top of the fourth. With one out in the frame, Heather Lutz singled through the left side and Ashley Cantiello followed with a single down the right field line to put runners on first and second. In stepped Brittany Smith who came through with an RBI double to right center that pushed across Lutz and gave the Marauders a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the inning, the Rams took their first lead with a two-run double down the left field line but Millersville wasn't done.

Gabbie Berry opened the top of the sixth with a double to center and advanced to third on a groundout from Lutz. Cantiello was next up and delivered with an RBI single up the middle to knot it up at 2-2. That is where the score stood until the bottom of the seventh when Shepherd walked off with the victory.

Brianna Andraos (1-2) took the loss after going 6.1 innings and gave up three runs, two earned, on seven hits while striking out three batters and walking five. Freshman Brittany Smith had a breakthrough game with three hits in three at-bats and Cantiello was the other Marauder with multiple hits at 2-for-3 with an RBI.

GAME TWO RECAP

Much like game one, the score was tied heading into the bottom of the seventh of the second game. This time, it was 1-1 with one out and the bases empty. Shepherd's Shanan Plunkett then hit a solo homerun to lef field that gave the Rams their second straight walk-off win over the Marauders.

Millersville took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to an RBI double from Berry that brought in DiFilippo. However, the Marauders wouldn't score again and the Rams tied it up at 1-1 in the third before winning the game in the seventh.

Amanda Wink (0-2) pitched well in her second start of the season. The sophomore righty gave up two earned runs on five hits in six and a third innings of work. Millersville had just two hits, one apiece from Berry and Brittany Smith.

The Marauders are next in action for six games at the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament in Salem, Va. from March 14-16.
