Box Score 2 Millersville, Pa. -Â Brianna Andraos continued her dominant start to 2014 with a complete game shutout in Millersville's 3-0 game-one victory over Kutztown but the Golden Bears earned the split by taking game two, 7-2.
The Marauders (13-9, 3-1 PSAC East) needed just three runs on four hits to defeat Kutztown (8-13, 2-2 PSAC East) before the Golden Bears exacted their revenge with seven runs on 12 hits in the second contest.
GAME ONE RECAP
In the first inning, Millersville was first on the scoreboard with a sacrifice fly off the bat of
Brittany Smith that scored
Jordan Sheffield.
In the bottom of the third, the Marauders added two runs of insurance to take a 3-0 advantage over the defending national runners-up. With one out in the frame, Sheffield tripled and
Danielle DiFilippo pushed her across the plate with an RBI double. After DiFilippo moved to second on a groundout by
Gabbie Berry and Smith walked to put runners on the corners, DiFilippo came in to score thanks to a wild pitch.
That was all Millersville needed as Andraos (8-3) tossed her 11th complete game of the season in as many starts. The sophomore hurler threw seven innings and gave up no runs on three hits while striking out seven batters and walking only two.The Malvern, Pa. native retired the first eight batters of the game and didin't give a hit up outside the infield until the top of the seventh.
In the box, DiFilippo led the way with two hits in her three at-bats, a run scored and an RBI. The other run batted in came from Smith who was 1-of-1 at the dish with a walk.
GAME TWO RECAP
Kutztown went up 7-0 in game number two with one run in the second inning, four in the third and two more in the fourth.Â
The Marauders' only two runs came in the sixth when
Ashley Cantiello reached on an error by the shortstop that scored Smith and
Maria Spinosa brought in
Heather Lutz with a run-scoring fielder's choice.
Stephanie Kulp (1-1) lasted only two innings and gave up five earned runs on four hits with three walks and no punchouts. In relief, Andraos went 4.2 innings and gave up two earned runs in six hits while walking and striking out two batters apiece.
Amanda Wink pitched the final inning without giving up a run on two hits to go with a pair of strikeouts.
At the plate, Millersville had seven hits that came from seven different hitters. The Marauders stranded six runners in game two while the Golden Bears left 11 runners on base in the second contest.
Millersville is home again tomorrow for a doubleheader with East Stroudsburg beginning at 2:30 p.m. Those two games are all part of a stretch where the Marauders will play 10 games in just six days.
