Box Score 2 Millersville, Pa. - Thanks to a pair of complete games from sophomore hurler
Brianna Andraos, Millersville beat Lock Haven by scores of 3-0 and 4-2 to begin 2-0 in the PSAC East.
The Marauders (10-8, 2-0 PSAC East) and Bald Eagles (6-13, 1-3 PSAC East) met for the first time as PSAC East foes but Andraos (7-3)  was simply too much to handle for the visitors. The Malvern, Pa. native struck out 12 batters over the two games and walked only three while putting her season's ERA at 1.04.
GAME ONE RECAP
In the first game, it was scoreless until the bottom of the third when Millersville put up two runs to take the lead. Andraos was the first to bat and struck out swining but reached first on a wild pitch. One out later,
Jordan Sheffield reached on a fielder's choice and moved to second on a passed ball. A
Danielle DiFilippo double scored Sheffield and after DiFilippo advanced on a wild pitch,
Gabbie Berry pushed her across the plate with a two-bagger of her own.
The Marauders tacked on one more in the fifth when
Ashley Cantiello reached on a bases-loaded walk and Sheffield crossed the dish.
DiFilippo and Berry led the offense with two hits apiece and the first three batters in the order (Sheffield, DiFilippo and Berry) combined to hit 5-for-9 with three runs scored and a pair of RBIs. Andraos threw a seven-inning complete game and gave up no runs on two hits.
GAME TWO RECAP
Millersville struck first in the second game as well and the rally started with
Brittany Smith in the bottom of the second. The freshman singled and one out later, Andraos reached on a fielding error by the right fielder that put runners on first and second for
Mandy Hammond. Hammond singled to third base, which loaded up the bases for Sheffield who reached on a fielder's choice that brought in Smith. That was followed by a two-run double from DiFilippo and the Marauders were up 3-0.
Lock Haven cut the margin to one with a two-run triple in the fifth but the Bald Eagles wouldn't score again. In the sixth, Andraos singled home Smith to provide some insurance and make it 4-2 in favor of the home team.
In the box, DiFilippo, Smith and Hammond each registered two base knocks apiece. In the circle, Andraos went the distance again with seven innings pitched and gave up two earned runs on five hits.
Millersville is home again on Wednesday, March 26 for a doubleheader against Bowie State beginning at 3 p.m. The Marauders defeated the Bulldogs 9-1 in six innings on March 15 as part of the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament.
