Box Score Elkins, W.Va. - Behind six strong innings from starter
Jim McDade, the Millersville baseball team completed a three-game series sweep of Davis & Elkins with a 5-1 win Sunday afternoon.
Tyler Orris delivered three hits and stole a base to lead a lineup that totaled 10 hits and four stolen bases.
Adam Zipko worked one and two-thirds innings for his fourth save of the season.
Millersville (10-5) pitchers limited D&E (5-7) to just five hits on Sunday and just two runs and nine hits in the entire series. Millersville's three starting pitchers--
Chris Murphy,
Tad Barton and McDade--combined to allow only seven hits in 20 innings.
The Marauders recorded a hit in each of the first two innings but double plays ended each scoring opportunity. But with two outs in the third,
Mark Stuckey reached on a bunt single and swiped second base. He scored on a
Chas McCormick single. Orris plated McCormick with a single of his own.
Millersville padded the 2-0 lead in the fourth when
Kurt Seiders drove in
Dan Stoltzfus. Two more runs crossed in the sixth inning when
Tyler McDonald doubled in Stoltzfus and later scored after a D&E throwing error.
McDade (1-0) had a two-hit shutout working through six innings but a walk and double to lead off the seventh put the Senators on the board and chased McDade from the game.
Matt Binder entered and after hitting the first batter he faced, he forced a 6-4-3 double play and escaped the inning with a ground out to Orris.
D&E threatened against
Sean Stephenson in the eighth with a walk and one-out single. Zipko put out the fire with a pair of strikeouts. Zipko cruised through the ninth to stay perfect in his 15 save opportunities.
Millersville makes its 2014 Cooper Park debut on Wednesday against Indiana (Pa.). First pitch for the doubleheader is 1 p.m.
