Collegeville, Pa. - Despite the massive amount of snow on the ground the Millersville women's track and field team heated up at the Ursinus Open on Friday night and won four different events while placing second overall with 89 points.
Redshirt junior Brittney Martin grabbed two first place finishes herself. Martin easily won the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.10 and helped the 4x400-meter relay team to a top time of 4:09.57.
Fellow 4x400 members Erin Madison and Megan Meyer eached grabbed second place results at the Ursinus Open. Meyer's 800-meter time of 2:24.22 was a PSAC qualifying mark, her fastest time of the season and just short of the fastest time at the meet. Madison ran her third fastest time of the season in the 60-meter hurdles and took second at 9.51 seconds.
Freshman Arianna Camel took fourth in the 60-meter hurdles but grabbed her first top finish of the season in the high jump. Camel jumped over the bar at 1.57 meters for her third highest jump of the year.
Camel's classmate Shannon Cruz dominated the 5,000-meter run and finished with another second place time in 18:39.47. That time was a PSAC qualifying mark.
In the sprinting events Erin Mason and Kiara Allen each finished with a pair of top-five results. Allen bested Mason by two spots in the 60-meter dash. The redshirt sophomore placed second in 7.85 and Mason finished fourth in 7.98. Mason flipped the script in the 200-meter dash when she took the top time of 25.99 and beat Allen by four spots, who placed fifth in 26.80.
Millersville has one regular season indoor meet left and will travel to Selingsgrove, Pa. next weekend for the Susquehanna Open. The following week the Marauders will compete in the PSAC Championships at Bucknell University.
