Millersville Turns to the Mehmedovic Sisters in Rout of Mansfield

Box Score Millersville, Pa. – Wednesday night in Pucillo Gymnasium, Millersville snapped its three-game losing streak with a dominant 72-46 win over Mansfield behind 29 combined points from Senada and Sabina Mehmedovic.
 
The Marauders (12-10, 7-5 PSAC East) turned the ball over just 13 times and turned 23 Mountaineer turnovers into 26 points (26-7). Millersville outscored Mansfield (0-23, 0-13 PSAC East) 18-9 in second chance points, 46-15 in bench points, 43-24 in the paint, and 11-4 on the fast break. The Marauders shot a blistering 8-of-20 from 3-point land.
 
Senada Mehmedovic led all scorers with 19 points thanks to season-highs in field goals made (7) and 3-pointers (5). The team's lone senior also had two rebounds, two steals, one assist, and tallied her first block of the season.

Her sister Sabina scored 10 points as the other Marauder in double-figures, was 4-of-8 from the field and made both of her free throw attempts. The junior guard had five rebounds and two assists as well and has scored in double-digits two of the last three games after doing so just once in the first 19.
 
Millersville led by as many as six in the opening seven minutes but a Megan McSwain layup cut the deficit to two, 14-12, with 13:01 to play in the first half. The Marauders then turned it on and went on a 23-4 run over the next 11 minutes and 13 seconds. The run was capped off by five straight points from Aunjel Van Brakle and Senada chipped in six during the stretch as well.
 
The Mountaineers made just one field goal over that that span to go with two free throw makes and Millersville headed into the locker rooms with a 37-19 advantage.
 
Out of the intermission, the Marauders pushed their lead to as many as 33 on two separate occasions and led 70-37 with 5:18 to go in the second frame. The smallest the margin would get was 26 as it was in the final score.
 
With the win, Millersville clinched a PSAC Tournament berth and will appear in the event for an 18th-straight season. The Marauders travel to Kutztown on Saturday to take on the Golden Bears with tip set for 1 p.m.
