Bethlehem, Pa. - Millersville women's indoor track and field sprinter Kiara Allen ran a NCAA provisional mark in the 60-meter dash to highlight the Marauders' season-opening Fast Times Invitational.
Allen was just shy of breaking her school record in the event, as she crossed the finish line with a time of 7.73. Her time was good for third out of 46 runners. The mark also qualified her for the PSAC Championships later this season.
Millersville, competing in its first meet of the indoor season, also received good showings from its veterans on the roster. Junior Vanessa Hower broke the school record in the weight throw with a steller toss of 15.15 meters. Hower actually broke the record three times during the preliminaries and finals, and ended up finishing the event second out of the 21 competitors.
Sophomore Arianna Camel, freshman Madie Tropp, and senior Erin Madison produced PSAC qualifying times in the 60-meter hurdles. Madison was able to score a second-place finish with a time 9.23 seconds, which was just faster then teammate Arianna Camel who finished third with a time of 9.25 seconds. Tropp qualified for the PSAC's with a recorded time of 9.83.
Rounding out the PSAC qualifiers was Kayla Naughton who ran an impressive 26.07 in the 200-meters and Jess Fritsche who qualified in the Triple Jump with a eighth-place finish.
With no team finish results, the Marauders were able to use the Fast Times Invitational as a stepping stone for the rest of the 2014-15 indoor track and field season. Millersville will have the remainder of the calendar year off to train before returning to competition on Jan. 16 at the Golden Bear Invitational at Kutztown University.
