Marauders Postseason Hopes Dashed by Lock Haven

Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville volleyball team's hopes of a third-straight PSAC Tournament appearance came to an end on Friday night inside Pucillo Gymnasium as Lock Haven swept the Marauders in straight sets.
Millersville (14-16, 7-14 PSAC) was outhit .188 to .075 by the Bald Eagles (19-10, 13-8 PSAC) who won with set scores of 25-17, 25-19 and 25-22 while taking over sole possession of first place in the eastern division with one match to play in the regular season.
The visitors opened the first set on a 4-1 run and maintained their advantage throughout the period. The home team cut the deficit to one at 4-3 but could never tie up the score as Lock Haven won the stanza by eight points. That marked the Bald Eagles best offensive set of the day as they hit .243 with 14 kills and five errors on 37 swings.
The second period was the tightest one of the match as it saw eight ties and five lead changes. All of those ties came in the first 22 points as the two teams were deadlocked at 11-11. That score came in the midst of a 10-1 run for the away team as it went up 19-12. The Marauders battled back with a little 7-4 fury but Lock Haven scored the final two points to come out on top and lead two sets to none.
The third stanza was the hosts best of the night as they hit .129 with nine kills and five errors on 31 total attacks. The period began witha 6-1 run by Millersville and it was fueled by three Kayla Wallace kills and three Bald Eagle errors. However, Lock Haven embarked on a 16-4 run of its own to go up 17-10. The Marauders didn't go away though and scored 12 of the next 18 points and trailed by just one point, 23-22. The Bald Eagles scored twice though to wrap up the match in three sets.
Wallace led the team in kills with nine and hit a blistering .296 while Victoria Biggins turned in 22 assists. Defensively, Brooklyn Smith tallied 16 digs and Erin Harman had 12 as well. Above the net, Wallace, Kelsi Ceriani and Emily Kaledas each had two block assists.
Tomorrow for senior day, Millersville faces Pitt-Johnstown in its season finale, which is set to start at 1 p.m. The Marauder seniors to be recognized before the match are Katie Lesinski, Mary Paul and Alicia Kucey.
