Complete Game Notes (.PDF)GAME OVERVIEW• The Millersville women's basketball team is coming off a hard-fought 52-49 victory at East Stroudsburg. The Marauders led by just one, 50-49 with 14 seconds remaining before
Carly Gallagher iced the three-point win with two free throws and 12 seconds on the clock. For the third time in four games and five of the last six dating back to the end of last season, Gallagher led Millersville in scoring with 13 points, nine of which came at the free throw line. The East Stroudsburg, Pa., native missed much of the second half with foul trouble. The other Marauder in double figures for Millersville was Martin with 10 points to go with a team-leading eight rebounds. Martin was also a perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line.
Sabina Mehmedovic only scored two points but tied a career high in steals with four to go with a season high three assists and two rebounds.
Yasmin Cooper turned in six points, seven boards and two blocked shots.
• All three of the Marauders' wins have been decided by four points or less and that's a complete changeup from last season as Millersville was just 1-4 in games decided by five points or fewer in the 2013-14 campaign
• Once again, the Marauders are one of the best defensive teams in the conference as they are giving up just 62.8 points per game, which is good for fifth in the PSAC for scoring defense. Millersville is also fifth in field goal percentage defense with a clip of 36.8 percent. With that being said, Millersville is second-to-last in the league in scoring offense at 59.8 points per contest and 12th out of 18 in field goal percentage offense (38.4 percent).
• The Marauders are also one of the best rebounding teams in the league. Millersville is fourth in rebounding margin (+7.8), fourth in rebounding defense (36.5), sixth in rebounding offense (44.3), seventh in offense rebounds (15.8), and seventh in defensive rebounds (28.5).
Alexis Martin is the ringleader in that category as she leads the squad in multiple rebounding categories including total rebounds (32) and rebounds per game (8.0).
• Individually,
Carly Gallagher has been carrying the offense and that is reflected in the PSAC's statistical rankings. The fifth-year senior is sixth in the conference in points per game at 17.3 and ninth in total points scored with 69. The East Stroudsburg South product has averaged 12.5 points per game in her career and now finds herself just 90 points away from the 1,000-point club.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT• Delaware State hasn't started the season like it would have hoped and has dropped its first three games to begin the 2014-15 season against the likes of Northern Kentucky (76-55), Binghamton (90-84) and George Mason (110-91). DSU will be making its home debut on Monday against the Marauders. Statistically, three Hornets are averaging double figures in scoring including Tierra Hawkins (22.3), Raven Bankston (22.0) and Amber Bogard (12.0). Hawkins is also the team's top rebounder while averaging 8.7 boards per contest and shooting 48.2 percent (27-of-56) from the floor. Bankston has been running the show for the offense as she leads the squad in assists with 11. Tamika Louis is in her third season at the helm for Delaware State and has accumulated a record of 18-45 so far including a 9-23 mark in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play.
