Box Score Millersville, Pa. - The No. 1 Millersville field hockey team improved to 8-0 on the season after defeating Slippery Rock for an eighth straight time on Saturday afternoon.

Champayne Hess each scored a goal as the Marauders remained unbeaten on the year with a 2-0 win.
Millersville's (8-0, 6-0 PSAC) defense set the tone for the game. The Marauder's back line limited Slippery Rock (4-5, 2-3 PSAC) to just one shot and one corner throughout the match. The one shot allowed was the fewest the Black and Gold have allowed all year and marks the sixth time this season that Millersville has stymied opponents to fewer than five shots.
The Rock defense held its own, holding the nation's top ranked team to just seven shots on goal, but the PSAC's second ranked scoring offense could not be thwarted and broke through in 15 minutes into play.

Sarah Bomberger played the corner to the top of the circle where junior
Kayla Bixler knocked the ball down and fired a shot at Rock keeper Carlee DuMars. Bomberger redirected Bixler's shot into the back of the net to tally her third score this year.

Champayne Hess tallied the insurance goal 13 minutes into the second period.
Katelyn Zapp crossed the ball in from the left side where
Alicia Youtz deflected the ball through to Hess, who easily tapped in the goal and gave the home team a comfortable 2-0 advantage.
Rachel Dickinson and the rest of the Marauder defense made sure to keep Slippery Rock off the scoreboard and secured the win by posting the team's sixth shutout of 2014.
Millersville's eight consecutive wins over The Rock dates back to 2008. The Black and Gold have held The Rock scoreless in seven of those eight meetings.
The Marauders have now outscored opponents 34-3 this year and have won 18 of their last 20 games dating back to last season.
The No. 1 Marauders have a week off to practice before traveling to Mercyhurst next Saturday to take on the Lakers at 1 p.m.
