Volleyball Loses Pair of PSAC Crossovers

Edinboro, Pa. - The Millersville volleyball team was in Edinboro for its second PSAC Crossover of the season on Friday night and dropped two matches to the likes of Mercyhurst and Edinboro.
The Lakers (13-5, 8-3 PSAC) defeated the Marauders (9-10, 3-8) with set scores of 16-25, 19-25, 25-23, and 17-25. In the final match of the night, the Fighting Scots (15-6, 7-4 PSAC) won their home match against Millersville with scores of 25-22, 25-16 and 25-21. The Marauders are now 0-6 against teams from the western division in 2014.
Mercyhurst hit a red-hot .205 in the first set with 15 kills to six errors on 44 total attacks. However, Millersville answered that with a hitting percentage of just .000 that included four kills and four errors on 27 swings. The Lakers took that set by nine points and their momentum continued in the second set with their best offensive performance of the match. In the second stanza, Mercyhurst posted an attacking percentage of .238 and that included 15 kills and five errors in 42 chances. The Marauders' offense came to life a bit and hit .133 with nine kills and five errors on 30 total attacks. However, the Lakers were too much to handle once again and took the set by six points to go up two sets to none.
Millersville took its only set of the match in the third stanza and did so my two points even though neither team hit very well. The Marauders hit .057 to .098 by Mercyhurst. The Lakers rebounded in the fourth set and won it by eight points after they managed to hit only .000. Millersville ended the match with a -.086 clip in the fourth set.
The offense was led by 10 kills from Erin Harman and 24 assists by Victoria Biggins. Defensively, Brooklyn Smith tallied 25 digs and above the net, Kelsi Ceriani blocked one attempt while assisting in three others.
In the Marauders' second match of the day, Edinboro hit .208 to just .128 by Millersville. The Black and Gold's best offensive set from either match came in the first stanza against the Fighting Scots. In that set, the Marauders hit .261 with eight kills and two errors on 23 total attacks. However, the home team took that set by three points and got things rolling in the second set with a nine-point victory to go up two sets to none. Edinboro hit .282 in the third set and won it by four points after its visitors hit .129 in the third and final stanza.
Again, the attack was led by Harman with eight kills and Biggins added 12 helpers. Brooklyn Smith dug out 18 balls while Kayla Wallace registered both a solo block and a block assist.
Saturday, Millersville is in Slippery Rock for day two of the crossover and will take on Gannon at 12:30 p.m. and The Rock at 6 p.m.
