Box Score Millersville, Pa. – In front of a packed Pucillo Gymnasium on Gold Rush day, the Millersville women's basketball team outscored Shippensburg 38-22 in the second half on the way to a crucial 72-61 PSAC East victory.
The Marauders (11-7, 6-2 PSAC East) shot a blistering 54.2 percent in the second half to just 21.9 percent by the Raiders (11-7, 5-3 PSAC East). Ship was over 19 points shy of its season average of 80.5 and that was due to Millersville out-rebounding Shippensburg 33-21 on the defensive glass, swiping 13 steals and blocking a season-high 10 shots. That marked the most rejections for the Marauders since Dec. 18 of last season (12).

Celeste Robinson led the way once again and filled up the stat sheet with 21 points, five rebounds, four assists, four steals, and three blocks. Robinson was 7-of-14 from the field and 7-for-9 from the free throw line. The Kregsville, Pa. native has now scored 17-plus points in six consecutive games.

Carly Gallagher was right behind the sophomore guard with 20 points and nine boards of her own to go with an assist and a steal. Gallagher was 7-for-12 from the floor including 1-of-3 from behind the arc and made five of her eight attempts at the charity stripe. Millersville had a pair of 20-point scorers for the first time since facing Charleston on Nov. 16.

Yasmin Cooper was the final Marauder in double-figures with 13 points, five rebounds, two blocks, and two steals.

Trailing 44-39 with 17:11 to play in the game, Millersville embarked on a 17-4 run over the next 4:27 to take a commanding 10-point lead. Cooper and Gallagher fueled the run with six points apiece and the Marauders were a perfect 7-of-7 from the field during that span. On the other side, the Raiders answered with just one field goal make in 10 attempts.

During the next five minutes and 32 seconds, Ship used a 12-5 run to cut the margin to 61-58 with 7:12 remaining in the game. That is the closest the Raiders could get though as Millersville closed the game on an 11-3 run thanks to seven makes in eight attempts from the free throw line. Ship couldn't score when it needed to the most going 0-of-9 from the floor down the stretch.

The first half was tightly contested with seven ties and nine lead changes while Millersville led by as many as four and Ship's biggest advantage was five. The Marauders trailed 39-34 heading into the locker rooms before their second half outburst.

Millersville outscored the Raiders 46-20 in the paint, 22-4 off the bench and 23-14 off turnovers. Â

The Marauders and Bloomsburg are now tied for second place in the division at 6-2 behind West Chester (7-1) and will see each other on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. in Pucillo.
