Marauders Roar by Mansfield; Boost Record to 7-0

Box Score Millersville, Pa. - The No. 2-ranked Millersville field hockey team poured in three goals in a five-minute stretch to pull away with a 4-0 win over visiting Mansfield Saturday afternoon at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium.

Millersville ran its record to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the PSAC and secured its fourth shutout of the season. Millersville out-shot the Mountaineers 37-2 and held a lopsided 22-2 edge in penalty corners. The shot total was the most by a Millersville team in at least 10 seasons. Kristie Rollman made 15 saves for the Mountaineers.

Lauren Sotzin had a quiet day at the other end of the field. She needed to make only one save to notch her 12th shutout in 31 career starts.

The Marauders' continued its attack with uncanny balance. Four players accounted for the four goals and three players added assists. Champayne Hess, Lauren Gerhart, Katelyn Zapp and Samantha Ruane all scored for the third time this season.

Millersville had trouble cracking the Mountaineer defense early, but at the 32:15 mark, Hess received a centering pass from Alicia Youtz and buried the ball in the back of the cage.

Just over a minute later, Millersville took advantage of a corner. Dickinson accepted the entry feed at the top of the circle and cranked a shot that got by the keeper. Gerhart was waiting at the left corner of the cage and redirected the shot for a goal.

Dickinson picked up her second assist 2:04 into the second half when Zapp redirected a shot over the keeper's reach and off the crossbar. Ruane got Sarha Bomberger her team-leading sixth assist of the season at the 50 minute mark.

Millersville has scored at least four goals in five of its seven games and has won six by at least a two-goal margin.

The Marauders travel to Slippery Rock on Oct. 5.
