Box Score Millersville, Pa. - The No. 3-ranked Millersville field hockey team continued to roll Saturday, shutting out visiting Slippery Rock 4-0 behind a two-goal day from sophomore
Lauren Gerhart.
Millersville, now 5-0, registered its third shutout of the season and has outscored its opponents 22-3. Gerhart's goals were her first two of the season, and
Rachel Dickinson recorded her fifth score in the last three games.
Emily Litchford also scored her first of the season.
The performance was utterly dominating as the Marauders out-shot Slippery Rock 14-7 and held a 14-5 in corners.
Lauren Sotzin made four saves for the Marauders. Two came in the waning seconds of the first half, and two more came in the final 10 minutes with the game already well out of hand.
Gerhart put the Marauders on the board at the 15:44 mark. Following saved shot, Gerhart caught the rebound and pushed it past Rock keeper Courtney Lee. Dickinson added to the lead at 27:09. She and
Sarah Bomberger hooked up off a penalty corner and Dickinson rocketed a shot to the back of the cage from the top of the circle.
Gerhart scored her second goal on an assist from
Olivia Hershey at the 48:04 mark. Litchford extended the lead with a slapshot fed on a penalty corner by Bomberger and
Brittany Troutman.
Millersville is allowing only 0.60 goals per game, and Sotzin now owns 11 career shutouts. With Gerhart and Litchford tallying goals Saturday, 13 different Marauders have scored this season. Bomberger pushed her team lead in assists to five.
Saturday's contest started a three-game home stand for the Marauders. They enter PSAC action on Sept. 27 against Seton Hill.
