Field Hockey Blanks Griffins to Stay Unbeaten

Box Score Greensburg, Pa. - Two goals from Rachel Dickinson and a dominating second half effort led the way for Millersville field hockey's 4-0 road win over Seton Hill Saturday.

The No. 4-ranked Marauders improved to 3-0 for the first time since 1985--the year the program reached the Division III championship game--and for only the sixth time in their 68 years of field hockey. Two of Millersville's three wins this season have come by shutout.

Seton Hill (1-3) knocked off No. 6 Indiana (Pa.) on Tuesday, but Millersville made sure the Griffins didn't pull off two upsets in the same week. Sarah Bomberger scored on an assist from Samantha Ruane to put Millersville up early, but that 1-0 lead remained until the second half.

Millersville roared out of the break with three, second half goals. Dickinson scored unassisted and tacked on another on an assist from Olivia Hershey. The goals were Dickinson's first two of the season. Senior Champayne Hess boosted the Marauders' lead to four with her team-leading third goal of the season.

The Marauders controlled play throughout and surrendered only one penalty corner to Seton Hill in the entire game. Even that corner came in the waning minutes.

Millersville has scored at least four goals in all three games after scoring four or more only three times in the entire 2012 season. The team's 15 goals have come from 11 different players. Ruane leads the team with three assists.

Millersville improved to 8-0 all-time against Seton Hill. Saturday was a non-conference tilt, but the two teams meet with PSAC implications at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium on Sept. 27. The Marauders travel to face two-time defending national champion West Chester on Sept. 18 and hope to avenge last season's PSAC Championship defeat. Game time is 4 p.m.
