
Marauders Finish Second at Millersville Metrics

Results
Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville women's outdoor track and field team hosted the 31st Millersville Metrics track and field meet Saturday, and the home track advantage served the Marauders well as the team finished second overall with 107 points.
Millersville was one of only two schools in the meet to reach the 100 point mark and topped PSAC contenders West Chester, Shippensburg, Lock Haven, Indiana (Pa.), and East Stroudsburg in points. Towson took first place at the Metrics with a score of 153 total points.
Senior Sarah Mulvey was one of two first-place finishers for the Marauders with her top time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Mulvey's time of 11:31.96 was nearly 30 seconds faster than her closest competitor and garnered 10 points for the home squad in the meet.
Possibly Millersville's best showing at the Metrics was in the hammer throw. The Marauders finished first, second, and fourth in the event and tallied a staggering 33 points for the meet. Kelli Farris' toss of 45.29 meters was tops among all competitors, while teammates Ann Kovacs and Vanessa Hower finished second and fourth respectively.
Farris also competed in the shot put and finished 24th when she launched the weight 9.54 meters.
Kiara Allen took home Millersville's best finish in the 100-meter dash. The sophomore crossed the line in 12.60 and picked up eight points for the Marauders with the second place result. Classmate Erin Mason also tallied points in the event with the eighth best finish, completing the race in 12.91.
The foursome of Allen, Mason, Jessica Fritsche, and Kayla Naughton placed second in the 4x100-meter relay. The Marauder runners finished the event in 48.74 seconds, just .26 seconds behind Towson's first place result.
Another second place finish in a relay event happened near the end of the meet for the Black and Gold in the 4x800-meter relay. The team of Mulvey, Amanda Long, Katie Hild, and Sarah Fink ran the event in 10:10.34 and helped pad the Black and Gold's second place overall finish.
The final relay of the Metrics, the 4x400-meter relay, saw the Marauders capture a third place result. Naughton, Madison, Meyer and Mason teamed up to run the event in four minutes exactly.
In the 200-meter dash Allen and Mason combined to record 11 points for Millersville. Mason finished third in 25.73 and Allen right behind her in fourth at 25.81. Both of those times qualified each athlete for the conference championships in May.
Naughton also ran a PSAC qualifying time in the 400-meter run when she crossed the line in 58.31. Her time was the second best in the event and helped Millersville capture eight more points towards the team score.
Amanda Long and Megan Meyer came in fourth and fifth respectively in the 800-meter run. The duo finished just two seconds apart as Long's time of 2:23.61 was good for a PSAC qualifying standard and edged out Meyer who finished at 2:25.51. Freshman Katie Hild placed 15th in the event when she crossed the finish line at 2:31.59.
Erin Madison won her heat in the 100-meter high hurdles and grabbed the sixth best result in the event. Madison crossed the line in 16.41 seconds and just missed out on a PSAC qualifying time by .16 seconds. The freshman was able to grab a PSAC qualifying time later in the day in the 400-meter hurdles. She finished in 1:04.15 and came away with the second best result in the event.
Millersville picked up one point in the 1,500-meter run from freshman Elizabeth Reese. Reese claimed the eighth spot with her time of 5:05.80.
The Marauders had two top-20 finishes in the long jump. Mary Stewart narrowly missed out on the eighth spot and finished ninth with a distance of 4.89 meters. Fritsche placed 16th overall with a distance of 4.59 meters. Stewart also placed 19th in the high jump when she leaped over the bar at 1.37 meters and Fristche finished ninth in the triple jump at 10.02 meters.
In the discuss Vaness Hower added to Millersville's team score by finishing sixth overall. She threw the discuss 35.50 meters and reached a PSAC qualifying mark.
In the 5,000 meter run Megan O'Neill led the Marauders with a 26th place finish. She crossed the line with a time of 21:13.04, ahead of teammates Samantha Martin and Emily Leighow. Martin finished in 28th at 21:39.28, and Leighow ended directly behind her in 29th with a finish of 22:05.96.
After the impressive showing at the Metrics, Millersville now travels to Baltimore next Saturday to perform in the Loyola / Hopkins Invitational.
