
Farris Sets School Record; Marauders Finish Fifth at Loyola/Hopkins Invitational

Baltimore, Md. - Sophomore Kellie Farris set the new school record in the hammer throw on Saturday afternoon as the Millersville women's track and field team placed fifth at the Loyola/Hopkins Invitational.
Farris threw the hammer 47.82 meters to trump teammate Ann Kovacs' 2012 school record of 45.34 meters. Kovacs actually beat her own record at the meet with a throw of 46.01 meters but placed second only to Farris' longer toss. Fellow Marauder Vanessa Hower finished third with a throw of 45.22 meters to land all Millersville athletes in the top three spots. Hower also placed second in the discuss with a throw of 35.24 meters, while Farris also placed eighth in the shot put with a toss of 10.41 meters.
Freshman Erin Madison grabbed another first place result for Millersville. The Pocono Mountain East grad crossed the line with the best time in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in 1:03.82. It was her best time of the year in the event and less than two seconds away from the current school record.
In the 5,000-meter run senior Sarah Mulvey set a new PSAC qualifying time. Mulvey finished in 18:32.69 and took home six points for the team with her third place result. Freshman Elizabeth Reese placed eighth with a time of 19:18.75.
Two other Marauder runners set conference qualifying times in the 200-meter dash. Freshman Kayla Naughton placed fourth in the sprint with a finish 26.23 and sophomore Erin Mason crossed just ahead of her at 26.04 to claim the third best time.
Sophomore Megan Meyer placed in the 800-meter run with yet another Millersville top-eight finish. Meyer's time of 2:22.80 was the fifth best in the event on the day and qualified her for the PSAC Championships.
Sprinter Kiara Allen tried the long jump out for the first time this season and placed 10th with a distance of 4.92 meters.
In the triple jump Jessica Fritsche was less than half a meter away from a PSAC qualifying jump. Fritsche finished with a distance of 10.27 meters, good for an eighth place result.
As a team, the Marauders gathered 79 points in the meet and came away with the fifth best team score.
Millersville returns to action next Saturday for the Gettysburg Invitational.
