Shippensburg, Pa. - Freshman Kayla Naughton ran the 400-meter dash in 57.44 seconds to tie the school record in the event that was set back in 1985 Saturday at the Paul Kiser Classic. Sophomore Ann Kovacs reset the school record in the hammer throw with a toss of 48.52 meters.
Naughton crossed the finish line in third place in the 400-meter dash and joined Savena Pyett as the only Marauder to finish the event with a time of 57.44. Kovacs placed third with her toss in the hammer throw and led the way for three other Marauders who also placed in the top-six spots. Kellie Farris took home the fourth spot (47.83), Nicole Sokira placed fifth (45.76), and Vanessa Hower sixth (44.98). The previous school record was set earlier this year by Farris with a distance of 47.82. Farris also placed 18th in the shot put when she launched the weight 10.37 meters.
Hower took home another top-10 finish with her showing in the discus. She set a new personal best with a throw of 37.56 for the fourth-best result at the meet. Hower's result was a PSAC qualifying distance and ranks her among the top in the conference in the event.
