Millersville, Pa. - Maybe the Millersville women's golf team should host events more often. In the first-ever Millersville Invitational held at Crossgates Golf Course, three Millersville women's golfers tied for first place in a field 23. Freshman Kendal Olear claimed first place on a tiebreaker.
Olear, Amber Rohrer and Jaimie Wharton all finished with one-round score of 93. For Olear, it was her first collegiate tournament victory and the third in the program's history. Now all three golfers on the roster have taken first place in a tournament.
With a three-way tie, the tournament was decided by the best score on the 12th hole. Olear parred the hole while Wharton and Rohrer bogeyed. Olear started slowly and entered the back nine four shots behind Rohrer. She made up the ground, however, with a 44--the lowest nine-hole score of the tournament. Wharton went out in 47 and came in with a 46. She also birdied both par threes on the front nine.
Taking the team crown in a field of four was East Stroudsburg at 398. Eastern University finished second and was followed by Ursinus and Muhlenberg.
Millersville travels to the Kutztown Invitational on April 6.
