Men's Tennis Snaps Skid with Win Over Bloom

Men's Box Score

Millersville, Pa. – The men's tennis team had a seven match losing streak heading into its home matchup with Bloomsburg, and the Marauders hadn't beaten the Huskies since the 2006-07. Saturday afternoon, Millersville killed two birds with one stone, beating the Huskies for the first time in six years while also winning for the first time in eight tries in a 7-2 rout of the away team.

The Marauders got their first PSAC win of the year thanks in large part to the efforts Jody Sambrick Jr., Tucker Mertz, Dylan Ryan and Kevin Tran. Sambrick won the No. 1 slot in singles play with 6-3, 6-2 wins over Mike DiSanto. Mertz won two matches, winning in singles play over Brayden Shipman by scores of 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.

Mertz and Dylan Ryan paired up to defeat Devin Bolton and Kyle Christy in doubles play by an 8-1 margin. The doubles win by Ryan was also his second win of the day, as he rallied to beat Christy after losing the first set, 4-6. Ryan won the next two sets, beating Christy 7-5, 6-1 to take the No. 3 slot in singles play. Tran was the third player to win two matches, claiming the fourth spot in the lineup with a singles win of 7-5, 6-3 and teaming with Anthony Jadus to win his doubles match, 8-5.

The win improves the team to 3-8 on the season, while dropping the Huskies to 0-6. Millersville now has a week off until its next match, next Saturday at home against West Chester. That match starts at 12 p.m. at the McComsey Tennis Courts.
