Field Hockey Blanks Rock for Fifth Shutout

Box Score Slippery Rock, Pa. -  No. 2 Millersville received one of its toughest tests to date Saturday at Slippery Rock. But another stellar effort in the cage from Lauren Sotzin and goals from Katelyn Zapp and Lauren Gerhart kept the Marauders' record spotless with a 2-0 triumph.

Millersville boosted its mark to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the PSAC with the win. Sotzin made four saves in goal to record her fourth shutout of the season. The Rock limited Millersville's chances to a season-low eight corners and 10 shots, but Zapp and Gerhart's fourth scores of the year was all that was needed.

Gerhart scored unassisted eight minutes into the contest, but The Rock kept it tight until Zapp's goal in the 54th minute. Zapp followed a save with a rebound that found the back of the cage.

Slippery Rock was held to only one shot the rest of the game, and The Rock was turned away by Sotzin as time expired.

Millersville looks to keep its perfect record in line on Wednesday, October 9, as the Marauders take on Mercyhurst. The Black and Gold defeated the Lakers earlier in the season, 4-2. Though, Mercyhurst has been the only team that has scored more than one goal in a game against Millersville. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
