Offensive Onslaught Leads Marauders to Big Win

Box Score Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville women's field hockey team scored seven first half goals en route to a 9-0 win over Newberry on Sunday afternoon.

Millersville (10-1) had seven different players score in the game, and sophomore Jayde Kauffman and freshman Arianna Grays each netted a pair of goals in the game. Kauffman finished the game with six points on two goals and two assists. The Marauders' 24 total points were the most the team has totaled this season and the nine goals were the most the Black and Gold has scored since defeating Seton Hill 9-0 in 2009.

The Marauders jumped on the Wolves early, going up 3-0 after just eight minutes of action. Starters Rachel Dickinson and Samantha Ruance each scored in the first 5:24 of play and Kauffman punched in her second goal of the season at the 7:45 mark.

In the 16th minute of the contest Millersville scored two goals in the span of 33 seconds. At 15:21 Megan Donlan sent in a pass from Mary Atkins and then at the 15:54 mark Jayde Kauffman assisted Margaret Thorwart third goal of the year.

In the 23rd minute Olivia Hershey scored her first collegiate goal to put Millersville up 6-0.

Kauffman scored her second goal of the game five minutes before the half and helped the Black and Gold enter the break up 7-0.

In the final period, Grays was the only Marauder to score. She tallied two goals on assists from Atkins and Kauffman.

Goalkeeper Lauren Sotzin only played in the first half and made one save, while backup keeper Samantha Rumler totaled seven saves in the second half.

The Marauders next host No. 3 West Chester on Tuesday at Chyrst Field at Biemsderfer Stadium. The pivotal PSAC match-up begins at 4 p.m. Millersville beat the Golden Rams 3-1 earlier this season.
