Marauders Run Past Wolves in Rout

Box Score Millersville, Pa. – Wednesday night at Pucillo Gymnasium, the women's basketball team took care of business, besting visiting Cheyney by a score of 64-34 during a game in which 12-of-13 Marauders scored. Millersville wins its 10th game of the season, improving to 10-4 (7-3 PSAC) while dropping the Wolves to 0-13 (0-10 PSAC).

Aurielle Mosley and Yasmin Cooper co-led the Marauders in scoring with nine points apiece. Mosley did her damage by shooting 4-of-4 from the field and extending her free throw streak to 13 consecutive made shots from the line by cashing in on her only attempt. The redshirt senior added five rebounds, three blocks and a steal. She accomplished all of this despite playing a season-low 17 minutes.

For Cooper, her nine points represent a career-high, besting the eight she scored against Bellarmine on Dec. 30, 2012. The freshman added seven rebounds and two steals. Another first-year player who shined against the Wolves was Celeste Robinson. Robinson went for eight points and added six rebounds, five assists and three steals in a team-high 31 minutes.

Robinson knocked down the first three points of the game from the line after she was fouled shooting a 3-pointer just 15 seconds into the contest. The freshman then gave the Marauders a 7-0 lead, their largest before the Wolves would get on the board. From that point, Millersville led the rest of the game wire-to-wire.

As balanced as the Marauders were in their scoring, the home team's defense was in its midseason form, allowing Cheyney to shoot just 20.8 percent for the game while forcing the Wolves into 32 turnovers on 19 steals. Millersville also blocked six shots. Redshirt senior Mashira Newman had a big hand in the defensive effort, tying a season-high with six steals. The Marauder point guard also added three assists and three rebounds.

Even with a 19-point lead (33-14) at the break, Millersville stepped on the gas in the second half, shooting 42.3 percent in the second stanza. The team's lead swelled to as many as 30 on three different occasions. Newman gave Millersville its first 30-point lead on a layup with 13:41 to go in the game.

The Marauders now take to the road and turn their attention to West Chester on Saturday. Millersville seeks to exact revenge at Hollinger Fieldhouse, as the Golden Rams ended the team's season last year in the PSAC Tournament with a 64-57 decision. All-time, Millersville has gotten the better of West Chester, owning a 44-33 record against the Golden Rams. Tip time for Saturday's showdown is 1 p.m.
