Reading, Pa. - It hasn't taken Millersville freshman Jaimie Wharton long to adjust to the collegiate game. Wharton led the Marauder women's golf team with a second-place finish at Monday's Alvernia Invitational.
Four days after tying for first at the Pocono Collegiate Invitational, Wharton shot a 12-over-par 82 at Reading Country Club to finish one shot behind Madison Hausel of Kutztown. Wharton's card included four pars on the front nine for a 40, and she registered three on the back nine to close with a 42.
Junior Amber Rohrer, who also tied for first at the Pocono Invitational, posted another top-10 finish. Her 87 was good for seventh place, making Millersville, Kutztown and Gettysburg the only programs of the 12 in the event to have two golfers in the top 10. Rohrer has placed in the top 10 in nine of her last 10 events dating to the start of the 2011 season.
Freshman Kendal Olear also competed, finished 33rd in the field of 47.
The Marauders travel to the Clarion Invitational on Sept. 22-23.
