Wildcats Knock Off Marauders in Extra Innings

Millersville, Pa. – Millersville scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at 3-3. After four-straight scoreless innings, Wilmington's (Del.) bats woke up in the 11th inning for six runs. The Marauders could only score one run in the bottom half to fall by a score of 9-4 in the home finale at Marauder Park.

The teams exchanged a run in the second inning for a 1-1 knot through two. Senior Carlos Medina, who made the start in left field, doubled to left center driving home Zach Stone from first base for Millersville's (24-21-1) first run.

Wilmington (26-15) regained the lead at 2-1 in the fourth inning with a RBI sacrifice bunt by Frank Samluk. The Wildcats added one more run in the top of the sixth for a 3-1 lead.

With two outs and runners on first and second, Dan Johnson doubled to right-center field. Johnson plated Mike August from second base and Kurt Seiders from first to tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth.

Neither team could find a run in the final three innings to force extra innings for the second-straight game at Marauder Park.  After a scoreless 10th inning, the Wildcats erupted in the top of the 11th.

Wilmington led off the inning with back-to-back singles and then a failed pick-of-attempt by Tad Barton (5-2) sent the ball into center field and gave the Wildcats a first and third situation. After an intentional walk to load the bases, Brian Black came in for relieve with nobody out.

Joe Harbach doubled to left center to give Wilmington a 5-3 lead. The Wildcats found four more runs before Adam Zipko came in to end the inning. The Marauders went through four pitchers in the top of the 11th.

Jeff Heisey hit a one-out single to center field to give Millersville a base runner.  Medina, with two outs, drove home Heisey from second base with a single to left field. But that was all the Marauders plated before the inning was retired to give the Wildcats a 9-4 win and second victory over Millersville this season.

Media and Johnson led Millersville with two hits and two RBIs each.

Millersville finished its regular season on the road this Saturday, April 28 when it travels to Clarion. The Marauders and Golden Eagles will begin their doubleheader at 1 p.m.
