Bloomsburg, Pa. – In a PSAC Championship clash, the men's Marauder tennis team took on the Kutztown Golden Bears in a PSAC Semifinal. Despite two doubles wins, Millersville could not pull off the upset of second-seeded Kutztown, dropping the match 5-4.
In singles play, Jody Sambrick, Jr. registered a three-set win over Matthew Maguire from the Golden Bears after falling down one set to love on a 3-6 decision. Sambrick responded with 6-4 and 6-1 wins to take the match. Millersville's other singles winner was Corey Garnier, who defeated Parth Grime in a tie-breaking third set. Garnier won set one by a 6-2 margin but lost the second set, 3-6. He responded to win the tiebreaking set, 7-6 after a 12-point tiebreaker that he won 7-5.
The Marauders got wins in two of three doubles matches. The tandem of Sambrick and Preetham Moras defeated Kutztown's number one duo by an 8-4 margin. In the final doubles match, Garnier and Tucker Mertz defeated Bilawal Suri and Darren Krout, 8-6.
The loss drops Millersville into the Third Place Consolation match tomorrow at 8 a.m. against Edinboro University, which was blanked by top-seeded Bloomsburg, 5-0. Because of the impending weather, all of tomorrow's PSAC Individual Championships have been canceled.
