
Gilbert Sparks Men's Golf to Fifth-Place Finish

Southport, N.C. - Millersville is set to play host to the NCAA Atlantic/East Super Regional in May. The men's golf team has its sights set on qualifying and made a strong statement over the weekend with a fifth-place finish at the St. James Plantation Invitational.
The Marauders totaled a opening-round 301 and stayed in the fifth position with a second-round 310 total. The Marauders bested 11 other teams--all of which are eligible to compete in the super regional.
The Marauders struggled during the fall, failing to finish in the top half of any of its four tournaments. Freshman Conor Gilbert got the team off to a quick start with the best finish of his career. After a 4-over-par 76 in the first round, he closed with a 2-under-par 70 to finish 2-over for the tournament and tied for seventh. His 2-under in the second round was the third-lowest round of the day.
Senior Shane Henry helped the Marauders by shooting 9-over-par and finishing in a tie for 23rd. Fellow senior Brian Cooper, Jeff Stokes and Tim See all tied for 42nd at 13-over-par.
California (Pa.) took the team crown with a 16-over-par total. Indiana (Pa.) finished one shot behind. UMass Lowell's Sylvain Debiais shot rounds of 71 and 69 to finish 4-under and in first place.
The Marauders return to the course on March 26 at the Eastern University Invitational in Malvern, Pa.
