Marauders Bounce Back to Trounce Clarion

Box Score

Millersville, Pa. - After being shut out by Clarion Friday, the Millersville baseball team got its bats going Saturday, posting a season-high 14 runs and taking the series with a 14-5 win.

Millersville managed just three runs in Friday's doubleheader, but posted eight in the seventh inning alone. The Marauders totaled 10 hits and drew six walks.

Evan King went 3-for-5 with two runs, two stolen bases and two RBIs. Zach Stone drove in three runs, and Kurt Seiders plated three runs with two doubles, and he also walked twice. Eight different Marauders drove in at least one run.

The offense overcame a shaky start by Tim Mayza. He threw 37 pitches in the first inning, and while Clarion scored two on one hit and three walks, Mayza stranded two.

Millersville tied the game in the bottom of the inning, but Clarion struck right back in the third with a solo homer from Ken Morgan. Once again, though, Mayza escaped without much damage, stranding two more.

That became a theme for Clarion as it stranded 14 base runners in the game. Millersville took the lead for good with four runs in the third. With two runs already already across the plate and leading 4-3, Seiders smacked a bases-loaded double to open a sizeable lead for the Marauders.

Clarion pulled to 6-5 in the top of the seventh on Bill Hasson's second homer in as many games. But in the bottom of the inning, Mike August reached on an error, and Zach Stone singled him home, starting an eight-run inning that included five hits and three walks.

Clarion used six pitchers, and starter Mark White (0-1) was tagged with the loss after allowing six runs on four hits and four walks in 2.2 innings. Mayza lasted three innings, allowing three runs on four hits and five walks. Tad Barton (1-1) got the win by coming on in relief in the fourth. Mark Royer, Adam Zipko, Jason Long and Jesse Mowen also pitched in relief.

Millersville now heads south to play three games at Chowan on March 13 and 14.
