Marauders Run Past Cheyney For Sweep

Box Score Millersville, Pa. – Cheyney's women's basketball team arrived at Pucillo Gymnasium on Wednesday night hoping to exact revenge on Millersville for a 17-point home defeat at the hands of the Marauders. Millersville had other thoughts and shut down the Wolves with a 70-35 victory, sweeping the season series.

The Marauders' (14-7, 11-6 PSAC) win, which sent the Wolves to a dismal 0-21 (0-17 PSAC) record, kept the home team within two games of the division lead. On the Wolves' side, Cheyney has not won a game since Feb. 5, 2011.

Aurielle Mosley scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Gabrielle Styles pulled down a team- and season-high 13 rebounds. The starting frontcourt of Mosley and Styles powered Millersville to its fifth straight in the series between the teams.

As clock wound toward halftime, Mashira Newman buried any hope of a Wolves' comeback. Newman hit a three pointer at the buzzer to give Millersville a 33-25 lead heading into the locker rooms.

Mosley and the rest of the starters did not need much work to finish off Cheyney. The Marauders outscored the Wolves' 37-10 after the break. Newman exited the game just two minutes into the second half. Sophomore Senada Mehmedovic entered an took advantage of 18 minutes of play by scoring a season-high eight points, while collecting three steals. All of Millersville's starters were out of the game by the nine-minute mark of the second half.

The 35-point drubbing was the Marauders' largest margin of victory since Millersville opened the 2009-10 season with a 36-point knockout of District of Columbia. Millersville has beaten Cheyney by an average of 21.8 points per game in the five-game winning streak.

The Marauders are back on the hardwood Saturday, Feb. 11 when they take on Kutztown. The 6-17 (4-13 PSAC) Golden Bears represent another tough matchup for Millersville, which hopes to atone for a 63-57 loss earlier this season at Kutztown.
