THE STARTING FIVE
(1) Millersville is coming off of a heartbreaking loss to PSAC East leading Bloomsburg on Wednesday. The Huskies came all the way back from 21 points down at halftime to beat the Marauders by a score of 77-73. Millersville forced 19 first-half turnovers and held Bloomsburg to 0-for-2 from behind the arc in the first half. In the second half, the Huskies' turned the ball over just three times and hit 7-of-11 3-pointers to help their 56-point second half.
(2) Redshirt junior
Mashira Newman became just the 18th player in Millersville women's basketball history to reach the 1,000-point milestone on Wednesday against Bloomsburg. Newman entered the game needing 17 points and scored 15 of them in the first half. With 1:36 remaining in the game, Newman made her second free throw of the half to capture the milestone and would hit a three with under a minute to play to now have 1,003 career points. Newman finished the game with a season-high 20 points.
(3) Reigning Co-PSAC East Athlete of the Week
Aurielle Mosley also led the Marauders with 20-points against Bloomsburg. Mosley added 10 rebounds to earn her 12th double-double of the season, 31 in her career. In the last meeting with West Chester, Mosley collected 14 points and 13 rebounds in 38 minutes. Newman led the marauders with 16 points, while
Sophia Waters and
Carly Gallagher also finished in double-figures.
(4) Millersville and West Chester are meeting for the second time this season. The Golden Rams took the first of two meetings by a score of 61-59 at Pucillo Gymnaisum on Jan. 14. The Marauders outscored West Chester 35-26 in the second half, but they were unable to overcome the half-time deficit. Millersville has not lost back-to-back games to the Golden Rams since the 2008-09 season.
(5) The Marauders are 6-0 (4-0 PSAC) after a loss this season, but will have a tough challenge to keep that streak going against the Co-PSAC East leading Golden Rams. Millersville last won at Hollinger Fieldhouse during the 2009-10 season.
ABOUT WEST CHESTER
• West Chester was upset by East Stroudsburg on the road a week ago by a score of 60-58 for its first loss in seven games. The Golden Rams responded well with a convincing 92-66 win over Mansfield on Wednesday at Hollinger Fieldhouse. Five players for West Chester scored in double-figures. The Golden Rams created 18 steals and caused the Mountaineers to turn the ball over 30 times.
• In the last matchup with Millersville, the Golden Rams had three players finish in double-figures. The difference in the game was excellent free-throw shooting by West Chester. The Golden Rams knocked down 81 percent (17-of-21) from the charity stripe, while the Marauders struggled with 46 percent and less trips to the line (6-of-13). West Chester
• The Golden Rams are second in the conference in scoring offense through 18 games averaging 73.8 points, while the Marauders are in the middle of the pack with 63.5 points per game. When scoring under its season average West Chester is just 3-3 in coference play.
• West Chester is 8-1 at Hollinger Fieldhouse this season with its only home loss coming on Dec. 4 to Gannon by a score of 66-64. Since then the Golden Rams have won five straight on home court.
• The Golden Rams beat Millersville at Hollinger Fieldhouse last Feb. 19 in overtime, 74-68, but West Chester has not beat the Marauders at home in back-to-back affairs since the 2000-01 season. The Golden Rams and Marauders split the home-and-home series and then West Chester knocked off Millersville at home in the PSAC Tournament.
