Aurielle Mosley to defeat the Marauders 60-54 on Saturday at Heiges Field House.
Millersville (16-9, 13-8 PSAC) announced its starting lineup without redshirt junior
Aurielle Mosley for the first time in 39 games to give Shippensburg (14-11, 11-10 PSAC) an early height advantage on the court.
The Marauders opened the game much like they did on Jan. 25 at Pucillo Gymnasium against the Raiders. Millersville went on an 8-0 run thanks to two 3-pointers by redshirt freshman
Carly Gallagher.
Shippensburg found itself with a 22-18 lead with 6:58 left in the first half but that lead did not last.
Millersville went on a 10-0 run over the next two minutes to take a 28-22 lead, its largest since the opening minutes. Gallagher led the charge with five points.
Shippensburg closed out the half on a 10-4 run of their own to tie the game at 32-32 with a pair of made free throws by Sarah Strybuc with no time left in the half. The Raiders finished the half going 14-of-17 from the charity stripe, while Millersville was just 1-of-2.
The first 12 minutes of the second half saw three ties and five lead changes before Shippensburg took its largest lead of the game at 50-44 with 8:34 left in regulation. Dana Wert hit her first and only 3-pointer of the game to give the Raiders the six-point advantage.
Millersville got as close of 52-51 with 3:45 remaining when Gallagher drove to the basket for an uncontested layup. Gallagher finished the game with team-high 18 points to tie her career best.
Shippensburg was able to put the game away from the foul line making four free throws down the final stretch to finish the game going 24-28 from the charity stripe. Shawna Wet, Dana's twin sister, led the team going 11-for-13 from the foul line to finish the game with 15 points.
Strybuc finished with a game-high 20 points for Shippensburg just two points off her career high, including 3-of-6 from behind the arc.
Sophia Waters and
Miesha Cousins each finished with 11 points for Millersville. Cousins finished with her first career double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds—both career-highs.
Mosley saw nine minutes of action in the second half but went 0-for-4 with two rebounds. Millersville, however, was able to collect 41 team rebounds. Shippensburg pulled down 43 boards.
It was Millersville's first loss to Shippensburg after seven-straight wins and its first loss at Heiges Field House since Jan. 15, 2008.
The Marauders close out the regular season at Bloomsburg on Saturday, Feb. 25. The tip is set for 1 p.m.
