Second Half Troubles Cost Marauders at ESU

Box Score East Stroudsburg, Pa – Millersville charged back in the first half to take a four-point lead into the break, but it was all East Stroudsburg in the second half giving the Warriors its first win over Millersville in 11 tries by a score of 65-58.

Mashira Newman drained her second 3-pointer of the game with 2:43 left in regulation to bring Millersville (15-8, 12-7 PSAC) within 58-55 of East Stroudsburg (10-13, 7-12 PSAC). The closest the Marauders were to the Warriors since giving up their 33-29 halftime lead.

ESU responded on its countering possession when reigning PSAC East Freshman of the Week Jessica Martin knocked down her fifth jumper of the game to put the Warriors back up 60-55. Martin, who is now a six-time PSAC East Freshman of the Week, finished the game with her fourth double-double of the season with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Millersville missed seven consecutive 3-pointers in the final 1:39 to allow the Warriors to push its lead to 65-55. Freshman Ryann Fiascki scored four of ESU's final five points on a jumper and two free throws. Fiascki finished with eight points going 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.

In the final seconds Newman knocked down her third tray to cut the Warriors' lead to 65-58 as time ran out. Newman finished with a quiet 19 points to lead all scorers.

The Marauders struggled early in the first half, trailing the Warriors 19-12 with 9:30 remaining. Millersville was able to storm back to take a 33-29 lead into the break. In the second half it was a different story.

The Warriors raced out to a 45-37 lead over the first seven minutes of the second half. The Marauders were held to single digits in the second half until the 8:18 mark when Miesha Cousins hit two free throws to bring the Marauders within 50-43 of ESU.

Millersville struggled in the second half shooting just 22 percent and turning the ball over eight times, five coming in the first three minutes of the half.

Aurielle Mosley was held to just one point in the second half to finish with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Mosley now has 15 double-doubles this season. Cousins finished with a career-high nine rebounds.

The win gives ESU its first win over the Marauders in 11 tries ending Millersville's longest winning streak over a conference opponent at 10.

Millersville returns home for its final regular season home game on Saturday, Feb. 18 when it hosts Mansfield at 1 p.m.  The Marauders will be hosting the “Hooping for a Cure” to help bring awareness to breast cancer. Millersville's seniors will also be recognized between the women's and men's games on Saturday.
